Typical Application Scenarios of Nanocrystalline Alloys
The application scenarios of nanocrystalline alloys perfectly match their performance characteristics, focusing on high-end power electronics sub-fields where other soft magnetic materials cannot meet the requirements of "high frequency, high power density, and low loss." They are irreplaceable core magnetic materials in these scenarios. Specifically, their typical application scenarios can be divided into three categories:
Core magnetic material for high-frequency, high-power power electronic devices: This is the application scenario with the largest usage of nanocrystalline alloys and also the area where their value is most significant. In this scenario, the equipment places extremely high demands on the high-frequency loss, saturation magnetic induction level, and permeability stability of the magnetic core material—the performance of nanocrystalline alloys perfectly covers these requirements. From a practical industry application perspective, nanocrystalline alloys are the core magnetic material for manufacturing PFC inductors, output filter inductors, and common-mode inductors in new energy vehicle on-board chargers (OBCs), DC-DC converters, photovoltaic inverters, energy storage converters (PCS), and high-power switching power supplies. The operating frequencies of these devices fall precisely within the optimal performance range of nanocrystalline alloys. In this scenario, devices using nanocrystalline alloy cores can significantly reduce energy loss and improve overall energy efficiency while maintaining miniaturization. For example, in new energy vehicle on-board chargers, common-mode inductors using nanocrystalline alloy cores are approximately 40% smaller and have about 30% lower losses compared to inductors with traditional ferrite cores—a performance advantage that other soft magnetic materials cannot match at the same cost.
High-end switching power supplies and high-frequency transformers: This is another core application scenario for nanocrystalline alloys. In high-end switching power supplies and high-frequency transformers, where power density and loss levels are critical, the performance of nanocrystalline alloys precisely meets these requirements. Typical applications of this type of equipment cover areas such as high-power server power supplies in data centers, communication base station power supplies, servo drive power supplies for industrial robots, and power modules for high-end medical equipment. In these scenarios, the equipment typically needs to operate continuously at high frequencies of hundreds of kHz, placing extremely high demands on the high-frequency loss, saturation magnetic flux density, and stability of the core material. The high saturation magnetic flux density and low high-frequency loss performance of nanocrystalline alloys can effectively improve the power density of the equipment, reduce temperature rise, and ensure long-term stable operation. Furthermore, in scenarios with high electromagnetic compatibility requirements, nanocrystalline alloys are also used to manufacture the cores of common-mode inductors and EMI filter inductors—utilizing their high permeability and low loss characteristics to suppress high-frequency electromagnetic interference and ensure the electromagnetic compatibility level of the equipment.
Core core material for precision current transformers and sensors: This is one of the emerging application scenarios for nanocrystalline alloys. In fields such as smart grids, industrial inspection, and precision measurement, it is necessary to accurately measure large currents or high magnetic field signals, placing extremely high demands on the permeability, linearity, and stability of the core material—the performance of nanocrystalline alloys perfectly meets this requirement. In this scenario, the high permeability and low loss properties of nanocrystalline alloys ensure the accuracy and linearity of measurement signals; while their excellent magnetic stability guarantees long-term stable operation of the equipment in complex environments. From a practical industry application perspective, nanocrystalline alloys have become the core material for some high-end precision current transformers, measurement-grade current transformers, and medium- and low-frequency power transformers—the measurement accuracy of these devices directly determines the metering accuracy and protection reliability of the power system. Furthermore, in some high-end aerospace power supplies with stringent requirements for size and weight, nanocrystalline alloys are also used to manufacture the cores of common-mode inductors and power transformers—further reducing the size and weight of the equipment while ensuring measurement accuracy.
